Joy Huntington is the Principal Consultant and President of Uqaqti Consulting LLC, an Alaskan community relations and communications firm. Uqaqti just celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2021! Joy has effectively led communications efforts and facilitated public meetings across the state in over fifty villages statewide. She has nineteen years of experience in rural communications and outreach. Her company is based in Fairbanks. Joy is Koyukon Athabascan from several villages along the Yukon River in Interior Alaska. Her maternal grandparents are from Tanana and Rampart. She was born in Fairbanks and grew up in Manley Hot Springs, Fairbanks, and Stevens Village.
Joy graduated with high honors from Dartmouth College in 2006 with a degree in Native American Studies and a minor in Environmental Studies. She also served on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Planning Commission for four years including serving as chairperson for one year. She was also elected to the Fairbanks City Council in October 2015. She loves writing, public speaking, and spending time with her daughters.
Uqaqti Consulting received the Indigenous Business of the Year Award from the Yukon First Nations Chamber of Commerce in 2018. In May 2019, Native Business Magazine named Joy one of the Top 50 Native Business Entrepreneurs in the country. She was the only Alaskan to make the list. Joy was also recognized as one of the 2019 Top 40 Under 40 Native Americans in North America by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development. She was also recognized as one of the 2020 Top 40 Under 40 in Alaska by the Alaska Journal of Commerce.
